Individual communication goals
Therapy may focus on requesting, sharing ideas, understanding useful language, conversation, social communication or communicating needs. Goals are selected from assessment findings and family priorities.
Supporting attention and participation
For children with ADHD-related needs, sessions can use clear routines, short activities, visual support and practical strategies to help the child participate in communication tasks.
Family involvement
Parents receive guidance for practising agreed communication strategies during play, meals and other daily routines. Progress and priorities are reviewed together.
Coordinated care
Speech therapy addresses communication needs and does not claim to cure autism or ADHD. When appropriate, care can be coordinated with the child’s pediatrician, school or other professionals.
Common questions
Do you work with children with autism?
Yes. Therapy focuses on the child’s individual speech, language, social communication and functional communication needs.
Can speech therapy help a child with ADHD?
Speech therapy may help when ADHD is accompanied by language, listening, social communication or participation difficulties. Assessment identifies whether speech-language therapy is appropriate.
